CD : Balfolk with Musac

Musac plays primarily folk music from the French tradition, with additions from other parts of Europe. Main part of their repertoire are traditional dances, like Bourrée, Waltz, Polka, Mazurka etc. Musac organizes a monthly dance (Balfolk) in Schinnen and plays at concerts and festivals several times a year (all events temporarily cancelled because of Covid-19).

Musac consists of Hans Schmitz, Will van de Bool en Huub Suijkerbuijk. They play the accordion, bagpipes, hurdy gurdy, nyckelharpa, flutes and spoons. They celebrate Musac’s 30th anniversary in 2021.

The recordings were made, with Musac’s permission, during several concerts and sessions between 2014 and 2019, by Walther Beset en Sylvia Wennekes. Musac asked us to put some tunes on Youtube first. Next we sifted through the recordings to select the best tracks for a music CD. The result is this CD album, which offers 22 tracks and over 55 minutes of playing time. It is a pressed CD and comes in a nice digipack.

With each track, we mention the dance that goes with it, so apart from listening to the beautiful music, you can use the CD to have a go at the dances. Listen to Het Kanneke (Andro), de Dubbele Klappolka, Maclotte de Habiémont, Noël Nouvelet (Gavotte), several Waltzes and Bourrées. Everyone who knows Musac will love this CD.
